Presque Isle Historical Society has a Victorian Valentine for you!
Join us on Thursday, February 14 for the 2nd Annual Victorian Valentine event at the 1875 Vera Estey House Museum at 16 Third Street. Enjoy a glass of champagne or sparkling cider, hear about Vera's lost love and the rumored affair of Queen Victoria and her Scottish groomsman; learn about Victorian courting customs, how Victorians could have a conversation without speaking a word and using only flowers, and of the history of Valentine's Day; see what is meant by a "vinegar" Valentine; and find out what popular Valentine candy originated in the Victorian era. Ladies receive a carnation and attendees will also receive a reproduction Victorian Valentine.
