GUIDED WALKING TOURS

Join us for free guided walking tours of historic downtown Presque Isle.

Tours begins and end at the Vera Estey House Museum at 16 Third Street . On street parking is available. The tour covers two miles and lasts approximately two and one-half hours. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for our unpredictable weather. Tours begin at 10 am.

PRESQUE ISLE'S FOUNDER'S DAY CELEBRATED

Saturday April 15 was declared Founder's Day by resolution of the City Council.

It was on April 16 that Dennis Fairbanks was born. In 1828 Presque Isle was first established as "FAIRBANKS" when Dennis Fairbanks opened a saw and gristmill near where the State Street Bridge is today.

FAIRMOUNT CEMETERY WALKING TOUR

$5 ppThe one-hour walking tour of Fairmont Cemetery offers a glimpse of Presque Isle's history and some of its better known citizens who have been laid to rest here. Tour begins at 5:30 pm. in front of the Civil War Monument. Free parking at the Chamber of Commerce across the Street. Call 762-6300 to make reservations.

PRESQUE ISLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOLDS PHOTO CONTEST

As part of the Historical Society's 50th Anniversary Celebration, an amateur photo contest will be held that is open to all individuals.  The contest is limited to two entries per person.  The themes of the photos are to showcase an historical element or item in and around Presque Isle.  The photos should be in an 8 x 10 inch format.  Framing is optional but preferred.  Proof of ownership must be available.

Annual Meeting

ANNUAL MEETING of the PRESQUE ISLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

This is the meeting at which all current members are eligible to vote for the slate of board members to serve June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2014.  The meeting will take place in the ground floor conference room of the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library.

$5 pp. One hour walking tour of the "kinda creepy, slightly scary" aspects of downtown Presque Isle. Includes tour of old jail. Tour begins at Historic Fire Station at 7 pm.

$10 pp. Ride with the Historic Society aboard Molly the Trolley as we participate in the Holiday Light Parade. Seats limited. Reservations required. Call 762-6300. Boarding at 6 pm. at North Street staging area.
